Anthonie Tonnon to Support Paul Kelly in Auckland
ANTHONIE TONNON ANNOUNCED AS SUPPORT FOR PAUL KELLY IN AUCKLAND
Legendary Australian musician Paul Kelly is hitting Auckland’s Powerstation for one show only on Sunday 12 April, showcasing his sell-out Merri Soul Sessions tour for the first time. Hot on the heels of his critically lauded album Successor, Auckland based performer and songwriter Anthonie Tonnon will open for Kelly.
The New Zealand Herald gave the album five stars, stating that ‘Tonnon has successfully turned his fascinations with the stories of others into masterful musical miniatures... It's rare to hear an album so singular, and yet so engaging.’
The first album under Tonnon’s own name ‘has pulled off that most difficult of tricks: a sublime collection of short stories masquerading as pop songs’, according to the Otago Daily Times.
The Paul Kelly show will offer fans a rare and unique live experience. Ten musicians and performers unite together to present an electrifying soul revue featuring songs from the acclaimed album Paul Kelly Presents The Merri Soul Sessions along with a dose of Paul Kelly hits. Each night of the tour in Australia has closed with a standing ovation, proving these shows are one of the most vibrant and memorable concert experiences enjoyed by audiences this year.
What the media are saying about The Merri Soul Sessions: ‘The group sung together like family – and the rapport between performers was palpable…. Kelly and his friends looked like they were having the time of their lives up on the stage. And it was impossible not to get down in the crowd.’ The Guardian
Be sure to catch an Australian great alongside one of New Zealand’s sharpest up-and-comers.
