Sky Fast-Tracks Denton Oval Restoration with $200,000 Donation
SKY is fast-tracking repairs to the Denton Oval cycling track in Christchurch, with the company making a $200,000
donation this weekend.
Chief executive John Fellet will present the cheque to Christchurch City Councillor Vicki Buck and cycling club
president Shane Buckner at Denton Oval at 10.30am on Saturday, 28 March. (Media and the public are welcome to attend.)
The gift is part of SKY’s $1 million five-year commitment to help repair the city after theearthquakes in partnership
with the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Trust. In 2013, it gave $200,000 to repair the field at Garrick Park and last
year it gave the same amount to restore the much-loved swimming pool at West Spreydon School.
At Denton Oval, SKY’s donation will enable the lighting, changing rooms, showers and toilets to be upgraded and the
track rails replaced.
“The cycling track is a very popular facility in Canterbury and, following this upgrade, it will be racing-ready for the
next 10 to 20 years,” says Fellet.
Guests will get a taste of the track on Saturday when various SKY personalities, journalists and Christchurch locals
take to their bikes for timed laps of the Oval.
SKY’s $1 million commitment to the Christchurch rebuild is focused on sports and recreational facilities.
“We decided to concentrate our efforts there as these types of facilities are fundamental to the health and wellbeing of
local communities, particularly their young people,” says Fellet.
