Art Deco Day steps out again at Highwic

People will have an opportunity to get their groove on 1920s-style at Auckland’s Own Art Deco Day Out on April 19.

Live jazz, along with a sparkling array of classic cars from the days of flappers and swingers, will make Highwic – the Heritage New Zealand property in Newmarket – a hot spot for people wanting to let their hair down in true Art Deco style.

“Auckland’s Own Art Deco Day Out is one of Newmarket’s annual stand-out events,” says the Manager of Highwic, Cheryl Laurie.

“There are thousands of Aucklanders who have an affinity for things Deco, and the fun nature of this event brings many Deco fans back every year.”

People are encouraged to pack a picnic, put on their roaring 20s glad rags (if they have any – no problem if they don’t, says Cheryl) and enjoy dancing to live jazz or just soak up the pleasant ambience of Highwic’s beautiful garden to the sound of music from the Gatsby-era.

The pop-up Cupcake Café will also operate on-site selling light refreshments to punters looking for a pick-me-up.

“There’s nothing like a bit of jazz al fresco to set your feet tapping – and for many people the wonderful world of Art Deco provides the ultimate in feel-good nostalgia,” says Cheryl.

“April 19 is a great opportunity to relive this amazing era when fashion was hot, jazz was a blast and everyone swung,” says Cheryl.
