First Group 1 Winner for Freshman Sire Per Incanto

First season sire Per Incanto was represented by his first Group 1 winner with two-year-old colt Dal Cielo (NZ) (Per Incanto) triumphant in the Group 1 $200,000 Haunui Farm Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Ellerslie on Saturday.

The oldest progeny of Little Avondale Stud sire Per Incanto are only two-year-olds, with Dal Cielo his first Group 1 winner and second stakes winner. He has already had six individual winners this season, making him the leading First Season Sire by winners and leading 2YO Sire by winners in New Zealand.

Per Incanto has proved popular with buyers at the past two NZB National Yearling Sales Series, averaging $78,688 this year and $49,250 in 2014 off a $4,000 service fee.

Dal Cielo has had four starts, finishing second on debut in October and has since won two races, withSaturday’s victory being his first stakes success. Trained by Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman, his last start saw him finish third in the Res. Listed $1m Karaka Million over 1200m.

Adorabeel (NZ) Surmounts Stakes Aspiration

Claiming her first stakes success was the Savabeel mare Adorabeel (NZ) (Savabeel) in the Group 3 A$150,000 Aspiration Quality (1600m) at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday.

Trained by Joseph Pride, Adorabeel has won six of her 25 starts and placed in a further eight races. She began her racing career as a three-year-old, now a five-year-old, and has raced up to a mile with this her first try at stakes level.

"She has just been a slow maturing mare," commented Pride. "I have only inherited her recently but I have been more than happy with her progress. She is really starting to mature and turn into a good class mare.

"I would like to head towards the Epona in a couple of weeks' time at Rosehill. It is a 1900m race which will be ideal to get her up over a little bit further."

Faust (NZ) Finds Favour in Canberra Cup

Kiwi stayer Faust (NZ) (Librettist) achieved his first win in a black-type race in the Listed A$200,000 TAB.COM.AU Canberra Cup (2000m) yesterday at Canberra Racing Club.

The five-year-old gelding had his first two race starts in New Zealand with trainers Tony Pike and Mark Donoghue. His New Zealand stint saw him finish second and third over 1200m as a two-year-old before transferring to Australia, breaking his maiden status fresh-up for former trainer Danny Williams.

After a number of starts, including three wins, Kurt Goldman took over Faust’s training in February last year and has recorded another three wins, including his first stakes victory.

“It was a great performance,” commented Goldman. “It was a tough win especially coming from the races he has been competing in recently."
