Black Caps Invite Volvo Ocean Race Sailor to Napier
Kiwi yachtsman Dave Swete will get to see the Black Caps during the Auckland Stopover of the Volvo Ocean Race.
The 31 year old Aucklander was unable to use his ticket for the Black Caps match v Australia at Eden Park last Saturday
as Team Alvimedica crossed the finishing line in Auckland just over three hours after Kane Williamson’s six won the
match for New Zealand.
When the Black Caps heard about Swete’s efforts to support them in the Cricket World Cup, they offered Swete tickets for
their next match against Afghanistan in Napier on Sunday.
“I had resigned myself to thinking I wouldn’t have the chance to see any of the cricket. Then to my surprise, the Black
Caps came through with this generous invitation to join them in Napier. Now I get to bring my mate to the cricket. The
match is timed perfectly on our weekend off before we go back to work Monday to get ready for Leg 5 of the Volvo Ocean
Race. This is certainly one of the highlights of what has been a great stopover at home” said Dave, Trimmer/Helmsman on
Team Alvimedica.
Swete will be back in action on the water next week with The New Zealand Herald In-Port Race on Saturday 14 March
followed by the Start of Leg 5 to Itajai, Brazil, on Sunday 15 March.
