Auckland Fringe Awards Celebrate A Cracker of a Season

Running over a vibrant three weeks, Auckland Fringe and it’s participating companies and venues, have presented the city with a diverse programme of Theatre, Dance, Comedy and Music. Sadly it all came to a close on Sunday, and was celebrated at the highly anticipated 2015 Auckland Fringe Awards. Hosted by renowned taste-makers The Basement Theatre, the best of the high quality programme were recognized with awards hosted handsomely by Eli Mathewson and Hamish Parkinson.

Winners were as follows:

Best Performance Music/Cabaret - Jayne Tankersley from A Play Upon Words
Best Performance Comedy - Laura Daniel from Prehistoria
Best Performance Dance - The ensemble from MOTHER/JAW
Best Performance Theatre - Amanaki Prescott & ensemble for Girl On A Corner
Highly Commended: Taylor Hall for Beast

Best Costume Design - Caterpillars
Best Set & Props Design - Ben Anderson & Sami Vance for Puzzle
Best Lighting Design - Brad Gledhill with Rachel Marlow for MOTHER/JAW
Best Sound Design - Addison Chase & Christoph El’ Truento for MOTHER/JAW
Best Direction - Anapela Polataivo & Vela Manusaute from Kila Kokonut Krew for Girl On A Corner
Best New Script - Amelia Reynolds & Saraid Cameron for The Memory Shelf

Best Production Music/Cabaret - Rain Dogs Cabaret
Highly Commended: Marika Pratley’s A Symphony of Sloths
Best Production Comedy - Little t Productions’ Keep Out Of My Box (and other useful advice)

Best Production Theatre - Show Pony’s Caterpillars

Social Impact - Live Orgy
Highly Commended: The Legacy Project: Year Two and Rising Voices Summer Series
The Spirit of the Fringe award - Binge Culture for Whales and Break Up (We Need To Talk)
Recognised: The River Talks and Wet Hot Beauties presents Wipe Out! for their community engagement.

Industry Awards:
The Development Award – MOTHER/JAW
The NZ Tour Ready Award – To be announced over the next few days.
The Fringe Award - I Wanna Be Na Nah Na Nah Nah
The Venue Award – Q Theatre, The Basement, Auckland Live.

It was a ripper of a festival for sure! A great congratulations and thanks goes out to all that made it happen, Auckland is no doubt looking forward to the next Auckland Fringe.
