A vibrant fusion of the waterfront energy and urban sophistication of the Viaduct Corner, Summer of Colour is breathing fresh life into downtown Auckland this March. With a vast array of creative social activities, arts, and entertainment for family and friends of all ages, it is the ideal place for Aucklanders and beyond to connect with each other and the stunning surroundings.
A range of family-friendly daytime and evening activities every Wednesday, Saturday andSunday brings together communities from around Auckland to celebrate great food, music, and much more - all at the stunning setting of Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour.
PLAYTIME: SUMMER OF COLOUR CLUBHOUSE
Saturdays in March are kicked off to a fun-filled, dynamic start with Summer of Colour Clubhouse, from 12 to 4pm. Beginning Saturday 7th March with heaps of awesome Clubhouse workshops, LEGO challenges (and prizes) celebrating Sea Week, it’s an engaging, creative ocean-side afternoon of activity at Viaduct Corner - with loads of delicious food and drink vendors on site to keep family members of all ages happy. The following week, 14th March, the Clubhouse returns at the same time with even more water-themed LEGO activities, workshops for kids, music, food and much more.
NIGHT MARKETS, MUSIC AND MORE: SUMMER OF COLOUR NIGHT TALES
The month kicks off with a bang on 1st March with Summer of Colour Night Tales, featuring the smooth live grooves Superheros Second Line and DJ Chris Cox from6pm amidst a bustling marketplace of boutique vendors and culinary delicacies served by food trucks hand-picked from Auckland’s best. It’s Sea Week in Auckland City, so what better spot to hit than the Viaduct Harbour and soak up the glittering waterfront.
SUMMER OF COLOUR NIGHT TALES PRESENTS JIM LANGABEER AND THE CRAIG WILLIAMS TRIO
Summer of Colour Night Tales are back for the evening on 7th March from 6pm. Delight in the colourful marketplace, offering divine treats to eat, drink and more. Guest DJ Bobby Brazuka brings the beats to Viaduct Corner in the fading daylight before Jim Langabeer and the Craig Williams Trio. This band, comprising Jim Langabeer on assorted saxophones, Craig Williams piano, Stu Johnstone bass and Trevor Thwaites drums, has a varied repertoire of jazz covering 1930s and 1940s jazz standards, bebop numbers and modern contemporary jazz.
SUMMER OF COLOUR NIGHT TALES PRESENTS AMERICANA MARKETPLACE
The following Saturday 14 March, a one-off Americana occupation of Night Tales is occurring from 6pm. Get into the mood with entertainment from spectacular super-powered band Superhero Second Line, Polytonix one of Aucklands leading Acapella Harmony groups, seamlessly segued by the slick beats of DJ Chris Cox. Check out the display of mad-awesome vintage cars , and grab a bite from one of the awesome American style food vendors -- it’s the real deal.
SUMMER OF COLOUR NIGHT TALES PRESENTS ISAAC AESILI & JENNIFER ZEA
Come Sunday 15 March, Summer of Colour Night Tales are back for a maximally relaxed evening market from 6pm, with sweet local grooves from Latin Soul vocalist Jennifer Zea (Antipodean Collective, Latinaotearoa, Shogun Orchestra) will join Trumpet player / DJ Isaac Aesili (Sorceress, Latinaotearoa, Lord Echo) for excursions into Latin and Jazz and many groovy corners in between. DJ Murry Sweetpants will also be on the decks with his fine vinyl selection on offer. The Night Tales vendors will be offering their consistently moreish array of food and beverages for your Sunday evening taking it easy with family and friends.
MOA PRESENT SHELTON WOOLRIGHT: ART IMITATING LIFE
Things are really heating up at the Viaduct Corner come mid-March. Saturday 14th March sees the first in a curated series of Summer of Colour art exhibits, showing the photography series Art Imitating Life by artist Shelton Woolright, thanks to Moa. In New Zealand for the first time after its debut outing in Paris, Art Imitating Life sees Woolright re-working the image of the tudor rose into a striking photographic exhibit. The exhibition runs until Friday 20th March, when a silent auction will occur to raise money for Cure Kids and Lifeline.
GRAB A BITE: SUMMER OF COLOUR LUNCHTIME SERIES
The Summer of Colour Lunchtime Series continue on Wednesdays throughout March. Viaduct Corner becomes a playground and meeting place for the hour 11.30am to 2.30pm, complete with tasty food trucks, live music, giant games of Jenga and Connect 4. Wednesday 4th March brings the chilled-out beats of DJ Hudge to the Lunchtime Series. The following week, join DJ Tido at Viaduct Corner for even more good times during your lunch break.
