ZM and Shortland Street team up on-air
23 February 2015 - One of New Zealand’s most beloved and longest running TV shows will join forces with the country’s
top pop radio station in a marriage made in entertainment heaven.
ZM has teamed up with Shortland Street to become the home of Shorty Street Radio, where every Saturday from 1pm until
2pm listeners can hear the inside scoop on their favourite soap from the actors themselves!
Actor Pua Magasiva, who plays Nurse Vinnie Kruse, will host Shorty Street Radio which launches on Saturday, February 28.
Pua will be joined weekly in the hot-seat by other Shortland Street stars, with his first guest Sally Martin known for
her role as Nicole Miller.
Content Director for ZM, Sarah Gandy says, “We are absolutely thrilled to announce this exclusive show on ZM. Shorty
Street Radio will give a whole new insight into the stars of NZ’s favourite TV show as well as what goes on behind the
scenes.”
“Pua was the natural choice to host Shorty Street Radio with his radio experience and energy, plus he’s a real favourite
with viewers and listeners alike. We’ve always loved working with the team at Shortland St, and we’re really excited to
take our relationship with them to the next level – it’s fair to say, things are getting pretty serious.”
South Pacific Pictures Head of Communications Tamar Munch says, “In its 23rd year on TV2, Shortland Street continues to
be New Zealand’s favourite drama. We are delighted at this opportunity to extend the Shorty Street brand.”
This is the first time Shortland Street has ever ventured into radio with Magasiva pleased to be playing a big part in
the inaugural broadcast and beyond.
“I’m really excited about this opportunity to give fans of Shortland Street even more of an insight into the stars and
storylines of the show,” says Magasiva. “From a purely selfish perspective I’m also really stoked that someone’s giving
me even more of an opportunity to talk as much as I like, it’s one of my greatest skills so being given another outlet
to utilise that skill is awesome.”
Magasiva is no stranger to the wonderful world of radio, currently co-hosting The SnP Show on Flava with Sela Alo on
Saturday mornings. Thanks to Pua’s ferocious love of music and ability to juggle acting, radio DJing and his family
life, Pua will continue to work at Flava, as well as hosting ZM’s Shorty Street Radio.
On Saturday, March 7, Pua and one of Shortland Street’s original cast members Michael Galvin (Chris Warner) will be on
air. Followed on Saturday, March 14 with Pua, Ben Mitchell (TK Samuels) and Bree Peters (Pania Stevens) discussing all
things Shorty. Michael Galvin and Sally Martin will be back on-air to share behind the scenes news on Saturday, March
21.
