Vikings third season storms on to Lightbox

Vikings third season storms on to Lightbox Express from the US

A band of Norsemen raided the Auckland waterfront this morning, entertaining bystanders with their on-street battles, authentic armour and summoning commuters to cross at the lights with war-horns and battle cries. As the Norsemen circulated around the cafés and shops of Britomart, one fan yelled, “RAGNAR LOTHBROK!”.

The spectacle was part of celebrations to herald the arrival of a new season of Vikings, a critically acclaimed drama series on online TV service Lightbox.

Following the fortunes of hero Ragnar Lothbrok and his Viking clan, the show has been one of Lightbox’s biggest hits since launch, consistently rating as one of the top shows on the service and reaching a global audience of more than 18 million.

The third season premieres on Lightbox at 8pm tonight (20 Feb.) within hours of its US debut. It’s the second premier show that Lightbox is bringing without delay to subscribers in February. Breaking Bad prequel Better Call Saul launched on February 9 to rave reviews, and set new records on Lightbox.

“It’s been a cracking start to the year for Lightbox. We know how much Kiwis loved the first two seasons of Vikings so we’re thrilled to be delivering the third season express from the US to satisfy the hunger,” says Lightbox CEO Kym Niblock.

“We also have the first two seasons of Vikings available on demand so anyone can view this incredible series from the beginning in their own time. It’s a show that keeps getting better and better, and is definitely worth the hype.”
