Jono And Ben Given New Primetime Slot on TV3
Jono Pryor and Ben Boyce have rubbed shoulders with Graham Norton, brought the inimitable Vanilla Ice to New Zealand, and even had Redfoo walk out on Guy Williams during an interview. Now they are going to bring their successful mix of slapstick, topicality and irreverence to 7.30pm, Fridays on 3.
Jono and Ben are one of MediaWorks’ most successful cross-platform entertainment properties, with a top-rating 10pm TV3 show, a popular daily Drive show on The Rock; and great success on Facebook and YouTube. They’re perfectly poised to leave late nights and take their unique blend of comedy to the masses in a primetime, hour-long slot.
Jono and Ben, along with sidekicks Guy Williams and Rose Matafeo, will be interviewing the big stars, directing more celebrities in Next Actor, and keeping the laughs coming with sketches, parodies and songs. Guy Williams will still strive to be taken seriously as a reporter, despite his lack of qualifications or remotely likeable personality.
“We are stoked to get this new timeslot – we had to hurt a lot of people to get here but it has all been worth it,” says Jono. “Moving our show to 7.30pm it means my nana who goes to bed at 7.50pm will be able to see 20 minutes of the show.”
Ben agrees: “To make the move to 7.30pm, we have designed an all new show which incorporates cooking, home renovation, weight loss, singing and current affairs into one hour. Plus, we are honoured to be on air after Campbell Live. Now John will have to talk to us in the make-up room.”
In 2014, More than 2 million New Zealanders tuned into TV show Jono and Ben at Ten alone. Their 7.30pm special, Jono and Ben Celebrate TV3’s ½ Half Century was watched by an average audience of 339,400 New Zealanders aged 5+, and was a winner in the commercial demographics, with a 24.4% share of the 25-54 audience and a 35.1% share of the 18-39 audience.
Head of Internal Production, John McDonald, says: “We’re very proud of their work and delighted that Jono and Ben will be given the chance to reach even more Kiwis in this great new timeslot at 7.30pm. Expect more stars, more laughs, and more of what makes Jono and Ben so good!”
Jono and Ben will screen at 7.30pm, Fridays on TV3 in 2015. The television series is supported by NZ on Air.
