Seasoned
Pass is a two room installation featuring
Reuben Paterson’s dazzling glitter paintings and
sculptures. Dominating the exhibition are exotic mystical
animals that resemble a diorama of luxury and jaded
decadence, juxtaposed against kowhaiwhai patterning. This
blending of modern kitsch and customary Māori patterns
explores social and cultural issues through Paterson’s
trademark medium, glitter. Looking through this visual
seduction, the viewer is invited to imagine what lies beyond
the shimmering surfaces.
As part of the exhibition there
will be a free art making session for kids on Saturday 14
March, between 10.30am – 12pm. Kids can drop by and make
their very own Reuben Paterson inspired glitter
masterpiece.
Puttanesca
Park is a new exhibition by Robbie Fraser
showcasing his latest large scale and bold abstract
paintings. Fraser considers his method of developing
abstract compositions as akin to cooking. The exhibition
title refers to the dish ‘Spaghetti ala Puttanesca’,
made entirely from preserved and pre-packaged
ingredients.
As part of the exhibition, on Saturday 28
March, Fraser will give a cooking demonstration of this
Italian recipe. Join the artist for tips on how to cook
Spaghetti alla Puttanesca as well as a conversation about
his current exhibition. Alongside Robbie Fraser's talk,
Corban Estate Arts Centre will also be having its annual
Open Arts Day. Twenty artists on site will
have their studios open to the public, offering a rare look
behind the scenes at their creative process as well as free
exhibitions, art workshops, dance and theatre performances
and live graffiti displays.
