Taupo rocked in the summer sun today (Saturday) when top international rock bands - HEART, FOREIGNER & THREE DOG NIGHT took to the stage in front of a sold-out crowd of 15,000 people at the Taupo Amphitheatre.

Described as the best Summer Concert Tour so far, Taupo turned on a stunningly beautiful day, with temperatures reaching the high twenties. While the crowd basked in the sun beside the Waikato River, they witnessed a total of five amazing acts.

Local artists Paul Foulds, along with The Blind Venetians, took to the stage late morning to set the mood for these unique afternoon concerts, while the fast growing crowd flowed into the Taupo Amphitheatre with picnic rugs and snacks for the day ahead.

Three Dog Night were the first of the three international rock acts to hit the stage, led by Danny Hutton & Cory Wells, who performed “Mama Told Me (Not To Come)” and “Joy To The World”. They were followed by hitmakers Foreigner at 3pm, with Kelly Hansen on vocals. “Cold As Ice” and “Waiting For A Girl Like You” got the crowd, who knew all of the words, singing along. Songwriters Hall Of Fame inductee Mick Jones led the band into the final two songs, finishing with the ultimate power ballad anthem “I Wanna Know What Love Is” followed by “Hot Blooded”.

Finally headliners, and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductees, Heart graced the stage around 5pm and kicked off with “Barracuda”, proving without a doubt that Ann and Nancy Wilson are women that can rock. Heart provided an epic finale to finish a perfect summer concert, finishing with their amazing rendition of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven”.

Amanda Calvert, CEO of Greenstone Entertainment says, “It’s fantastic to bring well known international artists to beautiful New Zealand locations such as Taupo. The crowds were amazing, thanks to everyone who came and supported the Taupo Summer Concert yet again. If you missed seeing these fantastic bands in Taupo, the tour heads to Whitianga for Sundays concert and then to Queenstown next weekend.

Another spectacular Taupo Summer Concert, a sell-out crowd, three international classic rock acts, concert goers singing and dancing to every song and there’s still two more to come - Whitianga tomorrow (Sunday) and Queenstown on Saturday 31st January.
