Auckland Live presents
XOX Pride
Aucklanders are invited to revel in the transformation of Aotea Centre’s Box Café and Baras XOX Pride comes alive with three weeks of vibrant, live performances from a fabulous line up of talent. Featuring DJ’s, Divas, Songbirds and Drag Queens, XOX Pride will be spreading the love this summer from 5pm till late, 11 – 28 February.
On Wednesday 11 February, opening night explodes into life as DJ Bobby Brazuka’ssteamy Latin beats set the stage for the ladies of drag to turn up the volume and get the party started. Some of Auckland’s most famous divas Anita Wig’lt, Tess Tickle and Buckwheat will strut their stuff and perform up a storm. Returning to Auckland after six years in NYC, crazed rock ‘n’ roll DJ’s Labretta Suede and Johnny Moondog will see the evening out.
The line-up of entertainment at XOX Pride features some truly impressive turntable devils.
DJ Je M’Appelvis, a frequent flyer from the house clubs of Paris and pub lounges of North London, will offer up an electric mix of funkadelic love vinyl. Our very own Tina Turntables of 95bFM will heat up the stage with a smorgasbord of sounds. Add to that DJSloane Ranger’s visceral mixes and The Banger Sisters penchant for power pop club bangers and XOX Pride is absolutely the perfect terrace bar for Pride and summer of 2015.
Joining the Drag Divas in this year’s programme is Auckland’s sweetheart Kita Meanwhose thirst for mischief is unstoppable. Famed for her incredible TV performance as Tina Turner in Stars in their Eyes, Fafafine Cindy of Samoa will deliver audiences show-stopping renditions of hits from Shirley Bassey, Whitney Houston and of course Tina Turner in her distinctly Pacifica style.
Rounding it out, leather lungs Jay Chasland is coming home with an exclusive Pride Cabaret set, Songs I Shouldn’t Sing. This award winning international entertainer will belt out songs he shouldn’t sing, topped with titillating tales he probably shouldn’t tell. And last, but not in any way least, the proudly lower-class Lola LaBomb will host one hellava Karaoke Party.
XOX Pride will be also be THE celebration hub for Auckland Pride Festival and will host a special after party following the Auckland Pride Parade, Ponsonby Road on Saturday 21 of February.
Box Café and Bar has been re-imagined as a tropical garden paradise by the talented team at Celery Productions (creators of Art in the Dark, and designers for Blind Date Project) to make XOX Pride the best place to be for the happiest of Happy Hours andProud Cocktails on the terrace daily between 5pm and 7pm.
Kick back and enjoy the party!
