Junior players get a taste of stardom at Festival of Tennis
ActivePost junior Tennis Hot Shots’ players will be able to have a hit on the same courts as the champs at this week’s
Heineken Open in Auckland running between 12th - 17th January.
As a part of New Zealand Post’s community programme ActivePost, junior tennis players will have the chance to play mini
gameson the best centre court in New Zealand at the ASB Tennis Arena.
ActivePost Tennis Hot Shots is the national starter tennis programme for New Zealand children. It teaches kids the
basics of the game using modified equipment so they get a fair go on the court while they’re learning.
“The ActivePost programme aims to introduce children to tennis through games and fun activities,” says New Zealand Post
sponsorship spokesperson Malcolm Shaw.
“Having the chance to impress their sporting heroes at the Festival of Tennis will be a season highlight for the
children.”
In its second year, the junior tennis programme has already proved to be a hit with kids. Already, more than 72,000
children in schools, coaching programmes and clubs have had a shot at tennis. Now, with the backing of New Zealand Post,
the programme is expected to expand its reach further still.
“Both ActivePost and Tennis New Zealand champion quality, fun and active learning,” says Tennis New Zealand CEO Steve
Johns.
“Involving the kids on the court at the Festival of Tennis is about encouraging participation in tennis at all levels.
It also gives parents and spectators some entertainment and a chance to have fun with their families in the time between
matches.”
