Williams celebrates NZ tennis victory with Moët & Chandon
It was the dream final that everyone was hoping for, with seven-time Grand Slam Champion Venus Williams (USA) winning against Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark) 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Moët & Chandon, the official champagne sponsor of the New Zealand Festival of Tennis for a second year celebrated William’s win in style by presenting her with a Moët & Chandon Magnum, created exclusively to honour her victorious sporting achievement.
“It felt amazing to win and good to be welcomed by New Zealand. I would like to thank my team and thank you all for having me back again. I would love to see you all again next year,” said Williams.
I would also like to thank Caroline for coming to New Zealand. It is so motivating to watch her train and it reminds me where women’s tennis is going into the stratosphere,” added Williams.
“This is such an incredible tournament and the crowd was amazing. I want to congratulate Venus on a great week and the crowd for their great support,” said Wozniacki.
Williams was last in New Zealand in 2014, where she lost to Ana Ivanovic in three sets. Coming back to New Zealand as one the top four most active players on the WTA tour Williams celebrates her 46th career title.
“Williams strength, skill and stamina on court today were extremely impressive. It's players like Williams who inspire Moet & Chandon to celebrate victorious achievements in sport. We hope she will continue her winning streak at the Australian Open Tennis Championship,” said Rai Banbury, senior brand manager Moët & Chandon.
“We are hoping to see Venus back in New Zealand next year, and are crossing our fingers that current world number one, Serena Williams, will come with her” added Banbury.
Moët & Chandon, which has long been an active supporter of international tennis, brings the magic of champagne to two of New Zealand’s most celebrated tennis events, the ASB Classic (5-10 January 2015) and Heineken Open (12-17 January 2015). Public who attend the Heineken Open next week can enjoy all the action live from the Moët & Chandon Champagne Lounge, which can be accessed by all tickets and ground passes.
