ASB “The Best Ball Boys in the World” goes Global

A video featuring ASB’s best ball boys in the world, who are in fact “ball dogs”, has gone viral after mass sharing of the clip on social media and catching the attention of a raft of international media.

The clip has gone viral through a combination of the players sharing[1], international media pick up and its feel-good factor, making the video hugely shareable on social media.

The video has had close to a million views on Facebook alone, and is the only piece of locally made content that has made it into the top 10 on the YouTube trend dashboard[2].

The interaction between Venus Williams, Svetlana Kuznetsova and the three clever canines has caught the attention of global media outlets like Mashable, Yahoo Sports, MSN, Vice Sports, USA Today, The Washington Post, ABC’s Good Morning America, Sports Illustrated and Britain’s Daily Mail. Combined these have nearly 750 million unique browsers per month[3].

ASB Bank, the major sponsor of the ASB Classic international tennis tournament, produced the video to celebrate their love of tennis by finding the world’s best ball boys. The ball dogs, Oscar, Super Teddy and Ted, were filmed supporting Venus Williams and Svetlana Kuznetsova during an exhibition match in Auckland last week.

ASB Bank’s Head of Community and Sponsorship, Mark Graham, says the tennis-mad company is thrilled with the response.
“For all of these international media to feature our video, means we’ve had people from all over the world see our ASB ball dogs in action and understand how passionate ASB is about tennis.”
