Warm Welcome To The First Day Of Rhythm And Vines

The day one of three day music festival Rhythm and Vines kicked off today as festival goers stepped into the vineyard for the twelfth year of the festival.

The scorching Gissy morning sun served as a warm welcome to festival goers, many of whom set up camp yesterday (28 December), and continued to shine down on every corner of the picturesque Waiohika Estate, Gisborne throughout the day as more festival goers arrived onsite.

The festival gates swung open at 5pm with the first artists taking to the stage an hour later before the traditional powhiri welcome on the Rhythm Stage at 7pm.

For the first time, Glastonbury’s Arcadia Afterburner projected strobe lighting through the vines and festival goers danced on raised platforms under trees of fire to international DJs including Grandtheft and Mr. Carmack.

Headlining the Rhythm Stage for the first night of the 2014 festival was Belgian DJ/Producer Netsky. A longstanding R&V favourite and accompanied by a full live band, his unique mix of drum'n'bass set the crowd off. Danish singer MØ and psychedelic Australian band Jagwar Ma also rocked the Rhythm Stage earlier in the evening and set the bar of the performances to expect over the two last days of 2014.

Campers spent the day between chilling in tent city and hanging out in the brand new Vines Village which hosted a range of daily festival attractions including Rhythm and Wed, Rhythm and Races or even some yoga.

Tomorrow, the festival will welcome Chet Faker and Chase and Status (DJ Set) to the Rhythm Stage, State of Mind and DC Breaks will be in the Arcadia Afterburner and P-Money will take over the Jagermeister Supernova.
