Christmas Comes Early to Orana

Christmas Comes Early to Orana

Orana Wildlife Park staff are celebrating the silly season one day early by planning a day of fun, festive themed enrichment activities for the animals. Starting from 10.15am a range of interesting feed items will be given to different animals throughout the day.

Head Keeper of Exotic Mammals, Rob Clifford, says: “there will be rhinos rumbling in to presents, kea cracking in to crackers and tigers tearing in to treats to name a few. Animal enrichment is a key part of our role and keepers wanted to have some fun for Christmas. The animals will enjoy the change which will in turn enrich the visitors’ experience”.

Planned enrichment times are:

10.15am: Siamang Gibbon (unwrapping presents)
10.45am: Rhinoceros (smashing their Christmas parcels)
11.30am: Tiger (the tiger will tear in to his treats)
12.00pm: Giraffe – hand feed them (normal feed)
1.00pm: Farmyard festive fun
1.30pm: Kea (crack in to crackers)
2.00pm: Monkey (silly season at monkey island)
2.30pm: Lion Encounter (normal feed)
3.00pm: Giraffe (enrichment feed)
3.30pm: Cheetah (parcel tear apart)
4.15pm: Meerkat and Otters (festive themed enrichment)
