Trotting club invites Katy Parry to watch
her namesake
Alexandra Park would roll out the red carpet for superstar singer Katy Perry if she wants to cheer on an equine version of herself at Auckland’s popular Night Trots this Friday, says Kimberley Algie, Sales & Marketing Manager of Alexandra Park.
The 30-year-old American singer is scheduled to sing at Auckland’s Vector Arena on Friday and Saturday nights as part of her Prismatic World Tour.
Ms Algie says the singer knows about the horse after she surprisingly retweeted an Alexandra Park tweet last year, following the horse enjoying a significant win. So far, Katy Perry the horse has won over $350,000 in total stakes.
What’s more the daughter of the horse’s trainer Cran Dalgety and owner Christina Dalgety, Madison Dalgety is a huge fan of the singer and in fact is going to the Saturday night concert with her mother. On Friday she says she’s more than happy to host the singer.
“What a great way for Katy to warm up her vocal cords for her first concert by coming along and cheering on her namesake. We all know she can roar and this horse is well worth supporting, and could do very well on Friday,” says Ms Algie.
She says Katy Perry the horse is a three-year-old filly winning top races in New Zealand and Australia. On Friday she’s starting in a Group 2 status race with a stake of $75,000 up for grabs. Recently she gained a national prize for best two-year-old pacing filly of the year.
Alexandra Park says the singer would have plenty of time to attend the race on Friday before her concert, with Katy Perry dubbed one of the favourite runners in Race 5 at 7.25pm.
“Like everyone else we’ll make sure Katy can also enjoy Alexandra Park’s free parking, admission, and race book. Here’s hoping we’ll see her because it may be a worthwhile flutter for her and for the horse having the superstar singer present would certainly be the ultimate good luck charm,” says Ms Algie.
