Following a sold-out solo tour in July, 2-time New Zealand Music Award winner Marlon Williams has announced a full band national tour in February to celebrate the release of his new single Dark Child.

Written by Williams’ close friend Tim Moore, Dark Child was recorded in Lyttelton with long time producer Ben Edwards (Aldous Harding, Tami Neilson) and is the lead single from Williams’ debut album due for release in April.

Dark Child presents a different sound for Williams, but perfectly captures the juxtaposition between heavy and light, dark and beautiful that is ever present in his work.

The song builds with chugging acoustic guitar and atmospheric choral and guitar overlays, as Williams croons “one day all this could be yours if you only had the will to outlive your mother and I”.

After a restrained, slow, build up, the track then catapults into the stratosphere, with Williams angelic voice soaring over distorted, wailing guitars.

Williams has spent the past 18 months based in Melbourne, playing some of the biggest festivals in Australia including Meredith, Queenscliff, Mullumbimby, Big Sound, Darwin and Brisbane Music Festivals, supporting Australian tours for Justin Townes Earle and First Aid Kit, featuring on nationwide television show Rockwiz, and being invited to perform at a sold out Sydney Opera House for TEDx Sydney.

Australian media have also been lavishing praise on Williams for his incredible live show, Billboard Magazine saying “expect to see and hear a lot more from this man with the voice of an angel” and The Music proclaiming “Marlon Williams is currently the finest in his field”.

Williams will tour with his 4-piece band The Yarra Benders, playing shows in Dunedin, Christchurch, Auckland and Wellington.
