ARTFRONT Showcases Artwork from Jeremy Shirley
ARTFRONT Showcases Artwork on Auckland’s Waterfront from Jeremy Shirley
ARTFRONT are delighted to announce the completion of a large scale work by New Zealand artist Jeremy Shirley situated on Auckland’s waterfront. ARTFRONT is an on-going temporal exhibition; the project seeks to support the creative sector and most importantly, the people behind the artworks. Jeremy’s work has been possible by the generosity of Waterfront Auckland and Resene.
Jeremy Shirley’s work is a large scale, landscape acrylic painting on a temporary hoarding; populated by both universal and personal symbols and icons, the work considers the familiar and the intangible.
This artwork aims to reflect a brave new Auckland waterfront in transition and the positive developments the space is currently creating for the community. Jeremy has been driven to create a work that facilitates public engagement, and one that appeals and acknowledges the future of a multi-cultural Auckland. The work faces the sea and is located on Halsey Street in Wynyard Quarter.
Jeremy Shirley is a full-time artist; he has worked in various creative roles including the Waikato Museum, art tutoring for The Department of Corrections, sign-writing and the completion of several commissions over the past 20 years. With a passion for the application of paint at a large scale, he is fascinated by the transformational aspect of artwork in public spaces.
The exhibition is open to the public and free of charge. ARTFRONT welcomes all ages to come along and enjoy this work on Auckland’s waterfront.
With special thanks to Resene who have gifted the paint supplies for this artwork and Waterfront Auckland will continue to support the artists involved in ARTFRONT.
