Drowsy Driver Awareness Day

Drowsy Driver Awareness Day

For this year’s New Zealand Drowsy Driver Awareness Day we are very pleased to announce the release of a free drowsy driving educational APP, which provides the ‘ABC’ of how you can avoid drowsy driving on the roads, and it’s potentially deadly consequences.

Just use your Smart Phone and type the words ‘AKILLA’, into either Google Play, I-Phone or Windows search boxes.
The APP also includes a ‘15 minute Power Nap timer’ for convenience.

Drowsy driving crashes are under-reported in New Zealand, but internationally their occurrence are regarded as second equal to drink driving crashes. Road safety experts in New Zealand now accept that drowsy driving is a factor in over 20% of crashes and in 2010 Government Officials under the New Zealand Safer Journeys Strategy ranked drowsy driving as a ‘medium priority’ , although they have done nothing about it !

The AKILLA drowsy driving educational campaign was set up to educate New Zealanders about the dangers of drowsy driving on the roads, on the 31st May 2005. The campaign has no political alignment and receives NO Government funding or support.

Drowsy Driving Awareness Day was acknowledged by Government transport ministers in road safety policy speeches at Parliament on the 13th December 2006.
More educational information, including real life experiences of drowsy driving are available on the official website at www.akilla.co.nz
