Cigna Kids Waterfront Fun Run hits Wellington’s Waterfront

Cigna Kids Waterfront Fun Run hits Wellington’s Waterfront

On Tuesday 16th December, Athletics Wellington will host the Cigna Kids Waterfront Fun Run, in partnership with Cigna NZ and Sport Wellington.

The Cigna Kids Waterfront Fun Run offers primary, intermediate and college age students a variety of fun run distances along Wellington’s waterfront. All distances will start and finish at Frank Kitts Park where there will be food and entertainment. Participants can take part in a 500m, 1km and 2km options, catering to preschool aged children, right through to year 8. This will be followed by a 5km event in conjunction with the Wellington Scottish Waterfront Run, open to all ages.

This year will be the second instalment of the kids fun run with last year’s event attracting almost 200 participants. With nearly 200 registered for this year’s event already, Sport Development Manager of Athletics Wellington and event organiser Jo Murray says the fun run is set to be a great day out for the whole family.

“It’s great to see such an interest in the event this year. With Cigna on board there will be plenty of entertainment for both participants and their families. Those who are keen can even join in and run alongside their children” adds Jo.

Cigna staff will be running a number of stalls as part of their global volunteer day. The stalls include face painting, a prize wheel, popcorn, ice cream and a barbeque at Frank Kitts Park.  A gold coin donation will be asked for each item, and all proceeds will go to Cigna Round the Bays’ official charity partner, Achilles International NZ.  Achilles helps disabled athletes to participate in events like Cigna Round the Bays and the New York marathon.

Registrations are now open at athleticshub.co.nz. Those who register before 9th December will be given a personalised race bib and certificate, with medals and spot prizes available to a few lucky winners.
