Portlander’s Flamin’ Mo tops Wellington Movember efforts
Portlander has topped the Wellington Region
ranking with over $5,000 raised during the 30 days of
Movember.
Simon White, General Manager (and not your typical moustache-grower), raised a total of $5,023 during Movember which earnt him the spot of Wellington’s number one fundraiser and third in the country.
Movember sparks conversation around men’s health by encouraging the men of New Zealand to grow a moustache for the 30 days of November.
“It was a great event to take part in, and it was a fantastic team effort from everyone for a great cause,” he says.
“I want to thank everyone for
their generous and kind donations – and the very humorous
comments made by a few,” he laughs.
Nine members of the
Portlander team sprouted Mo’s for the Movember challenge
this year, including Portlander’s very own mascot, Sir
Loin, a life-sized fibreglass bull.
Executive Chef and
top trouble-maker Tim McClay-Talivai lead the Portlander
Chefs into Mo’battle this year with his loyal troops
Gareth Walker, Matt Burke, Fabio Busalacchi and Micheal
Tobin sporting their very own themed moustaches.
The talented team also created the ‘The Flamin’ Mo” meal: Chargrilled Angus Sirloin served with parmiggiano hand cut fries, a truffle fried egg, and accompanied by a Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon, which featured on the menu specially throughout November.
November 19th also saw the Portlander run a full day of fundraising with proceeds from Preston’s Texan ribs and Monteith’s beer donated to Movember.
Movember New Zealand Country Manager Robert Dunne says Portlander’s efforts set the bar high for the rest of the country to follow.
“It’s really great to see how many people continue to get involved each year, because without teams like Portlander, it wouldn’t be possible,” he says.
“The Movember Foundation works tirelessly everyday to work towards a time when no man will die from prostate or testicular cancer and to break down the stigmas associated with male mental health,” Dunne said.
The Movember Foundation funds programmes in research and survivorship for men who are affected by prostate and testicular cancer and mental health, and has raised more than $10.5 million over the past eight years for this purpose.
