Artfront Showcases New Work From Local Artist Dawson Clutterbuck
Wynyard Quarter is to play host to a range of artworks from local artists with ARTFRONT, an on-going temporal exhibit
situated on Auckland’s waterfront.
ARTFRONT will seek to not only support artwork but to support the people that help make art happen. This project has
been possible by the generosity of Waterfront Auckland.
Between Land and Sea by Auckland-based artist Dawson Clutterbuck explores boat building as a way to connect the past to
the present, and the Hokianga-Nui-A-Kupe of his home district to downtown Auckland. The work will be located inside a
red shipping container on the eastern edge of Halsey Wharf next to the ANZ Viaduct Events Centre.
Clutterbuck’s new film Turanui, Part One: Keel, presents a portrait of George, a rural man who lives on his whanau land
at Rangi Point in the Hokianga. George is restoring Turanui, a 34-foot long modified Hartley monohull, which he has
recently acquired.
Using his own inherited know-how and localised knowledge from many decades fishing in his neighbouring harbor, George is
adapting this boat to become his retirement dream, a culmination of his enjoyment of fishing and life on the water. This
film is the first chapter of an ongoing series that will document George restoring Turanui over the coming years.
Shipping has played a crucial role in its history and development the Wynyard Quarter. It was once an industrial hub
where steel fabrication and wooden boat building occupied many sheds along the waters edge. Turanui, Part One: Keel
celebrates the site, being shown in an open container at Silo Park.
The exhibition is open to the public and free of charge. ARTFRONT welcomes all ages to come along to one of Auckland's
most significant marine sites on the following dates and times:

Between Land and Sea offers a unique experience for viewers to reflect on one’s relationship with the sea. Dawson
Clutterbuck is an Auckland based artist who works across the mediums of film, performance and sculpture.
