Silo Park Summer Season: Kick-off!
Launching Friday 5th December
The doors are about to open for the summer season in Silo Park at Wynyard Quarter! Silo Park has taken on a life of its own over the last three summers. Now in its fourth year, Silo Park is celebrating with a 2014 - 2015 summer programme packed with flavour and punch. Complete with your Silo Park favourites: movies, markets and music and a few surprises to boot, this week is just the beginning of a summer of good times and seasonal spirit!
THE FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS…
This Friday December 5th, bear witness to an exciting range of events brimming with the spirit of an Auckland Christmas.
Silo Cinema will kicking off in fine form with a tribute to the late Robin Williams in a screening of ‘Good Morning, Vietnam’. Head down to the historic Silo 7 before sundown to catch this retro classic. This is a free, fun and open-air film event for families and friends of all ages, held in Auckland’s prime seaside spot!
Our seasonal stalwarts, the Silo Markets, are back for a month of festive weekends with a plethora of Christmas goodies from the creative, cultural and culinary communities around Auckland. From 5pm until closing every Friday night, andSaturday and Sunday from midday until six pm throughout December, Silo Park will be alive with the vibes of a New Zealand Christmas. Offerings will include curious crafts, stocking filler options, real Christmas trees for sale and gift wrapping.
ASB SANTA’S BACH: ST. NICK HAS LANDED
Santa and his elves have once again decided to ditch the cold and join us for a classic kiwi Christmas by the sea. This year, Mrs Claus is making the journey too - all the way from the North Pole to set up home in Wynyard Quarter. ASB Santa’s Bach has gone through a few reno’s since its first outing in 2013. Still offering up four unique spaces, this immersive experience has more entertainment and interactive activities on offer for kiwi kids of all ages. From this Friday 5th December, head down and pay Santa a visit at Silo 7. Bring a present to help him and his team of elves get ready for their big delivery on Christmas Eve. All gifts are donated to the Auckland City Mission.
MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE: COMMUNITY ART MADE BY OUR KIDS
Also kicking off on December 5th is the very special makeover happening in The Gantry in Silo Park, courtesy of The Roots Creative Entrepreneurs. These guys have helped 4,000 school kids from thirteen Auckland schools create a massive sculptural installation of recyclable bottles, each bottle containing a child’s illustration of hope.
From this Friday, The Roots team will host free workshops every Friday, Saturday andSunday in December (until the 21st), from 10am to 2pm. Open to all generations, this is an exciting chance to witness a creative collaboration from wider Auckland come to life in Silo Park!
BECOME SOMEONE’S ANGEL AT WYNYARD QUARTER
The iconic Auckland City Mission Angel Appeal at Wynyard Quarter is back for 2014! While you’re at Silo Park this weekend, pop a gold coin at one of the many collections boxes around the Silo Markets, and you’ll receive a pair of Auckland City Mission angel wings. Attach it to iconic Silo Park Christmas Tree with a personal message (in tribute to someone special, perhaps – or with your seasonal wishes) to participate in this collective effort to raise funds in support of the Mission’s Christmas activities. Money raised goes towards the Mission’s Christmas activities, including emergency food parcels, a shared Christmas dinner and presents for less fortunate families.
SEE YOU SOON AT SILO PARK!
From markets, to movies, music and Christmas magic -- Silo Park at Wynyard Quarter is the place to be this summer. This Friday’s launch on 5 December will be bigger and better than ever -- so be sure to head down with your mates, neighbours and mums for a myriad of treasures for all to enjoy underneath the Silo Park mistletoe.
