Raggamuffin Fans Get Rasta Ready

THOUSANDS of reggae fans are getting rasta-ready for Auckland’s first Raggamuffin festival next Saturday Outdoors at The Trusts Arena.

The festival promises a jam-packed day of sounds bumping between the best in local and international talent all happening on one stage with 12 hours of entertainment over one epic day.

Gates open at 10.30am with Tomorrow People hitting the stage at 11am. The energy builds throughout the day with highlights including Pacific artist Fiji, Jamaica’s Queen of Reggae Etana and hip hop icons Cypress Hill. Up-and-coming reggae star Chronixx takes the stage in the early evening with the night ending with superstar hip hop act Ice Cube and reggae royalty UB40 featuring Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue.

New Zealand acts Sammy Johnson (with Brownhill), Aaradhna, Che Fu and the Krates, House of Shem and Katchafire all feature throughout the day with a top line-up of DJs to keep the sounds coming. Due to scheduling issues, Sons of Zion are no longer able to appear, but new talent is stepping in with Rihanna’s official DJ Max Glazer coming to spin a set in his signature reggae and dancehall style.

VIP tickets for Raggamuffin VIII are sold out and VIP ticketholders will have access to two VIP rooms – VIP1 includes DJ entertainment from 10.30am to 4.30pm featuring DJ Poroufessor, DJ Algoodie, Club Kings DJ Infared & 10A, King Kapisi, Ivan Ooze and DJ Sirvere; while VIP2 in the grandstand offers premium views of the stage.

Raggamuffin has teamed up with Auckland Transport to make getting to and from the festival easy with public transport options available at no additional cost to ticket holders.

Special event buses will run from Auckland CBD to Raggamuffin. North Shore festivalgoers can travel on regular Northern Express buses to transfer to the special event buses with return buses available from10pm.

Transport on regular scheduled train services are also included to enable transfer to the direct festival buses. Full details are available on the Raggamuffin website. Onsite parking is not available at Trusts Arena and limited parking is available in the surrounding areas.

Raggamuffin VIII is an R18 event and festivalgoers should bring ID to verify their age at entry. Full entry conditions are available on the Raggamuffin website.

The Raggamuffin Village is a highlight of the festival and this year features a scrumptious range of food offerings, together with stallholders selling clothing and collectables from official Raggamuffin merchandise and fashion stalls to airbrush tattoos and healing massage.

AWOP is the official Raggamuffin currency and festivalgoers can collect their AWOP card on arrival. First time top up fees do apply and refunds of remaining balance are available at the end of the day or online for up to 30 days after the event.

Raggamuffin 2014 is supporting the charity Y for Youth, with a donation from every ticket sold going to help support New Zealand youth organisations.
