Time with friends and family is Kiwis’ greatest Christmas wish
In a recent survey conducted by Cadbury NZ, spending time with friends and family topped the list as the most sought
after gift when respondents were asked what they most wanted for Christmas. The results give the impression that New
Zealanders are more about others than themselves this year.
The survey revealed that a holiday was the second most requested gift followed closely by a new car. There were the
usual requests for iPhones, boats, TV’s and home entertainment systems but many respondents just simply want more time
to relax with requests as modest as ‘a good night’s sleep’ and ‘some peace and quiet’ topping their Christmas lists.
The survey highlighted that times are still tough across the country and a lot of Kiwis continue to have money worries;
‘mortgage paid off’, ‘cash’ and ‘having my bills paid’ featured strongly in the research findings.
Many Kiwis are concerned about their health with several respondents requesting ‘good health & happiness for my family’ and ‘good health into the New Year’. And pets continue to be a focal point for Christmas with
a number of respondents asking for ‘a new puppy or kitten’ to add to their family this year.
The research also disclosed that significantly more South Islanders requested leisure & sporting equipment for Christmas than North Islanders, suggesting a greater sporting tendency in the south.
Cadbury commissioned the research as part of a new Christmas campaign launching this Sunday 30 November. ‘Catch
Christmas with Cadbury Dairy Milk’ runs for two weeks on TV2 and gives New Zealanders the opportunity to ‘catch’
Christmas gifts as they fall off Santa’s sleigh. In a New Zealand first, the promotion enables people to snap a pic of
one of the gifts with their phone as it falls across their screen, then upload it to Facebook and be in to win that
gift.
As part of the campaign, three charities will also benefit from Cadbury’s generosity this Christmas. Surf Life Saving
NZ, Make A Wish and the SPCA all receive $10,000 each from Cadbury.
