Donate a Day – This Giving Tuesday

Each day thousands of women deal with the symptoms and side effects of breast cancer. Giving Tuesday is a global fundraising initiative and a first for New Zealand launching this Tuesday. The requirements are simple – just give up a day of your holiday, to help raise money for Breast Cancer Cure (BCC), to develop further research in this field.

Launching on Tuesday 2 December, Giving Tuesday is a global day that’s dedicated to giving back, paying it forward and gaining insight into lives less fortunate.

“New Zealand has one of the highest rates of incident and the third highest death rate from breast cancer in the western world. While this is a horrifying statistic, BCC is working hard to find a cure,” says Phillipa Green of Breast Cancer Cure.

“We’re therefore encouraging people to donate a day off to research, so they won’t have to take days, months or even years off in the future.”

Those wanting to take part simply fill out a form (available from the Breast Cancer Cure website) and hand it to their head of finance at work. They then work as usual, but one day will be taken from their annual leave allocation and one day’s pay will be donated to help find a cure for breast cancer.

Green continues: “This year you have the opportunity to give a day back, so get involved and give up a day off this Giving Tuesday and help fund a future without breast cancer.”
