This Christmas, TEAR Fund New Zealand is encouraging Kiwis to give a card from the Gift for Life catalogue, which represents a gift that will help a family in the developing world.

Auckland grandmother Sharon Raath says she loved receiving a Gift for Life card from her grandson.

“It was one of the most thoughtful Christmas presents I’ve ever received. I don’t need any more things; an experience of changing another person’s life is priceless. “

Although some of the gifts cost as little as $5, their impact can be massive. For example after Marie from the Philippines was given sandals from the Gift for Life catalogue, she was able to walk to school without cutting her feet.

“Every day I have to walk for two hours on the gravel road, crossing rivers on my way to school. My feet would get cut and then infected. Thanks to my new sandals, my feet are now protected.” says Marie.
