Mosaic Music has been nominated for Best Gospel Christian Album in the 2014 NZ Vodafone Music Awards with their second album ‘You Surround’.
Recorded at Auckland’s Revolver Studios with Jason Suskov, followed by further production and recording with Nic Manders, ‘You Surround' is a compilation of songs written by various members of the band. Released on 6 April 2014, within 24 hours the album reached Number 1 on the NZ iTunes chart, and debuted at number 3 on the official NZ top 40 album charts.
Mosaic is a Mount Maunganui and Whakatane church, with a creative music community comprising about 40 musicians and singers. The band for the album is made up of Si Hayward (vocals/guitar), Kelly Hayward (keys), Josh Turner (vocals/guitar), Jared Harper (bass), Logan Skerrett (drums), Linden Cunninghame (guitar), Alice Cunninghame (vocals), Hannah Wanhill (vocals), Georgia Lines (vocals), and Kelly MacNamara (lead guitar). Georgia recently won the solo-duo category of the 2014 Smokefree Rockquest.
Categorised by Parachute as ‘Alternative Worship’, they attain to give a new language for people to express their love to their creator. As a worship album, ‘You Surround' encapsulates the journey of this Mosaic church community during the last couple of years. Passionate about creating honest and accessible music that leads people to a connection with God, the songs are fresh and inspiring, with a soundscape of lyrics and melody that are a response of faith and commitment to God, encouraging listeners to connect with a God of grace who always surrounds them.
Surprised by the nomination, band member Si Hayward says "Our desire, when making 'You Surround' was that there would be people beyond our sphere that would find some hope in it; some connection to our stories. That it's worthy of a Tui nomination is a really nice and unexpected surprise."
“We feel strongly that New Zealand has its own songs to sing, and that we are a part of this picture,” says Josh.
The other two nominees in this category are Saving Grace (‘Urgency’) and Lifestyle of Worship (‘Lifestyle of Worship’). The winner will be announced at the NZ Vodafone Music Awards on 20 November.
