Portlander’s Flamin’ Mo for
Movember
Local steak-house Portlander
believes the best way to raise money for Movember is with
1kg of Sticky Texan Ribs!
Wednesday 19th November is the Portlander Bar & Grill Movember fundraising-day with proceeds from every rib and beer order going to The Movember Foundation.
Movember is responsible for sprouting moustaches on thousands of men’s faces during the month of November and in doing so raising awareness and funds for men’s health.
Portlander is passionate about being active in the community which is why they’ve signed up as an official Mo Hub this Movember.
“Nothing shouts manhood more than tasty ribs, fine beer and a magical moustache,” says Portlander sales executive Rhiannon Beaven.
“So this Movember we’ve created the ultimate meal for a man with a mo and all of the supportive Mo Sista’s too!” she says.
The meal consists of slow roasted ribs with Portlander’s own take on the classic Texan BBQ sauce, crispy potato skins, cole slaw, and a pint of Monteith’s finest tap beer.
Nine members of the Portlander team have sprouted Mo’s for the Movember challenge this year, including Portlander’s very own mascot, Sir Loin, a life-sized fibreglass bull.
“While Sir Loin is pretty used to doing things most other bulls don’t, competing in Movember is a stretch even for him,” laughs Beaven.
Heading the challenge is Portlander Head Waiter Ivan Young, or ‘Ivan the Great,’ who needs no introduction to the Portlander regulars.
Hoping to raise $1,000 for The Movember Foundation, Ivan is no stranger to a manly moustache.
“I’m often stopped on the street and complimented on my moustache,” Young says. “I’ve had many a drink bought for me by admirers of my facial flair.”
The biggest competition is sure to be in the kitchen as the Portlander Chefs are sure to whip out mega Mo’s.
Executive Chef and top trouble-maker Tim McClay-Talivai is leading his boys into Mo’battle this year with his Einstein-themed Mo.
His loyal troops are Chef’s Gareth Walker, Matt Burke, Fabio Busalacchi and Micheal Tobin who have sharpened their tools for the month.
The talented team have also created the ‘The Flamin’ Mo” meal: Chargrilled Angus Sirloin served with parmiggiano hand cut fries, a truffle fried egg, and accompanied by a Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon, on the menu throughout November.
Movember New Zealand Country Manager Robert Dunne says it’s such a great opportunity for Movember to have Portlander onboard.
“Portlander is setting a manly standard for the rest of the country to follow,” he says.
