The Britomart Precinct will be the home of high quality art from self-taught artists or artists living in the margins or outside of the mainstream art world.
The Nathan Club hosts the main events with an exhibition curated by Stuart Shepherd who has represented some of New Zealand’s artists at the New York Outsider Art Fair and beyond – highlights include works by Susan Te Kahurangi King, Jim Dornan, San Francisco’s Creativity Explored, Andrew Blythe, Tracey Tawhiao and more; and the market place, an eclectic mix of quality art at all ends of the price spectrum.
Helping celebrate and leading into this inaugural event some of New Zealand’s leading designers and store owners are hosting pop up exhibitions in stores from the 17th till the 24th of November including Kathryn Wilson, Karen Walker, Kate Sylvester, Lululemon, Coucou, Made and the Westpac entrance on Takutai Square.
Opening night on Friday 21st November embraces the connect between art and fashion with the the outsider art fashion runway collaboration with Jeanine Clarkin. Also featured is the Live Art Battle by Co-Lab and music by Ruia Aperahama.
The Fair aims to broaden the awareness and discuss the cultural context of Outsider Art in New Zealand /Aotearoa. On Saturday at noon Josie McNaught hosts a panel discussion programme which includes Richard Wolfe, Tim Walker, Stuart Shepherd and Ole Maiava, and there will be other presentations of work and live performance over the The Outsider Art Fair has been initiated by Toi Ora Live Art Trust, an award winning art organisation, providing innovation and leadership in the field of creativity and mental wellbeing since 1995. Modeled loosely on the globally renowned New York Outsider Art Fair, the event offers an opportunity for New Zealand’s diverse community of innovative thinkers, inspirational speakers, and creative minds to come together to shed light on this growing phenomenon.
