It will be all eyes on the catwalk as our fledgling third-year fashion designers showcase their latest collections in what promises to be an exciting and inspirational evening.
The emphasis of this annual show is the third-year graduate collections which demonstrate the designers’ individual talents and directions. Of the third-year Fashion Design cohort, seven designers will also showcase their collections recently displayed at Shanghai Fashion Week in China.
Shanghai University of Engineering Science / IFA Paris will also show a selection of collections from eight of their designers, as part of the Shanghai Dunedin Sister City Fashion Communication Project.
“We had an amazing opportunity to display our Dunedin-based design at an internationally-renowned event,” says Fashion Design student, Jessie Wong. “To have Shanghai designers come to Dunedin and showcase at Collections will be a wonderful experience for all of us!”
This is the third year the cultural collaboration has taken place. “This has been an incredibly inspiring experience for all students,” says Otago Polytechnic’s Academic Leader – Fashion, Dr Margo Barton. “We have a great partnership with Shanghai University of Engineering Science / IFA Paris in Shanghai, which opens doors for our respective students to explore different cultural outlooks. We all truly learn from one another.”
The public can also view fashion students’ work as part of DEBRIEF, which offers a chance to peruse the garments up close and at your leisure.
DEBRIEF Design Exhibition
In
a creative and inspiring display of communication, fashion,
product and interior design, the DEBRIEF exhibition is the
culmination of the Bachelor of Design degree, opening on
Friday, November 20.
On show in the DEBRIEF exhibition is an impressive range of promotional material, animation, illustration and graphic design work, communicating both personal convictions and client needs.
“It’s always interesting, innovative and visually dynamic and we have worked really hard to ensure our projects are enticing,” says Communication Design student Marcia Stewart.
Teams of students have been working over the past three months to design, curate and implement the three- day exhibition, which will be open for public viewing from November 21 to 23.
Communications student Zoe Paterson says the exhibition is great opportunity for students to display their design style and outcomes in a relaxed environment. “This is the most exciting time for us, because we get to chat to the public and industry about the projects we’ve been developing over the past few years. It’s a real milestone for us.”
Collections and DEBRIEF are part of
the Otago Polytechnic end-of-year showcase Excite.
