Andrew Fagan summer tour celebrates 30 years & new EP

Andrew Fagan summer tour celebrates 30 years & new EP Ancestor

Nine concerts featuring songs from the Mockers / People / solo

Andrew Fagan & The People will perform nine dates across New Zealand this summer to something old and something new – 30 years of music-making for Fagan, and a brand new EP.

Tickets are available from 9am today at Eventfinder.co.nz for the nine-date tour – taking in Auckland, Northland, Napier, Masterton, Wellington, Christchurch, Timaru, Lake Hawea and Dunedin.

Special guests along for the ride at various gigs include Shona Laing, Delete Delete, and Simon Sweetman in DJ mode.

Fagan and band kick off their nine-date national tour at Auckland's BackBeat Bar (100 K Rd) on Friday December 12, with Shona Laing also performing.

That will mark 30 years to the day since The Mockers reached No 2 in the NZ charts with Forever Tuesday Morning; the same year (1984) their debut album Swear It's True went Top 5 and sparked a wave of Mockermania!

But ever-intrepid Andrew Fagan has never been one to dwell on the past, and while his tour shows will embrace some of those Mockers favourites, Andrew and the band are equally excited to perform new material and coincide the tour with the release of new EP,Ancestor.

In the South Island in January, Andrew Fagan & The People will also feature in live music sequences for the upcoming NZ art film 'The Hoover Diaries'.

Music bible Stranded In Paradise labeled Andrew Fagan - "Kiwi Rock's most flamboyant frontman" - and for those who have seen his live shows with Andrew Fagan & The People - it's a label that is still relevant. These days you can add RadioLive broadcaster, writer, and long-distance solo sailor to the mix, but this tour is all about the music.

The new Ancestor EP is a follow-up to the Fagan & The People album 'Admiral of the Narrow Seas', and builds on the energy and chemistry of the new band, featuring Darryn Harkness (Loud Ghost), Kurt Shanks (Delete Delete), Ronny Growler (Show Me Where It Hurts) and guitarist Josh Rockfield.

Says Fagan: "The People are the most powerful and dynamic live band I've had the pleasure of performing with. I was surprised when the guys said that our new single is coming out bang on 30 years after Forever Tuesday Morning! Where did those years go...

"It feels like a good time to get out around the country and do it real and live with a set of the songs that have meant so much to me over the last 30 years."

Fans of The Mockers can look forward to hearing the likes of Swear It's True, One Black Friday, Alvison Park, Seven Years Not Wasted and Forever Tuesday Morning, while others familiar with his later work will enjoy Jerusalem, Now You Know, Exciting and more recent gems like Get Light, Religion, Messiah, and new songs like Ancestor and Stalling.

And being Andrew Fagan, expect a few surprises.
