Summer exhibition on the Wellington waterfront
A
collection of some of the finest modern portraits by New
Zealand’s most celebrated artists, including Rita Angus,
Frances Hodgkins and Toss Woollaston, goes on display at
the New Zealand Portrait Gallery, on the Wellington
waterfront, on Thursday (Nov 13).
The gallery’s summer exhibition, entitled Who Am I?, has reached the capital after touring the country for more than three years after it was developed by the Dowse Art Museum, Lower Hutt.
“It is a wonderful line-up of some of New Zealand’s most illustrious artists,” said Avenal McKinnon, who is making the exhibition her swansong as she retires at the end of the month after nine years as the gallery’s director.
The exhibition, which includes works by Michael Smither, Robin White, Jeffrey Harris, Nigel Brown and portrait photographs by Ans Westra, runs until March.
New Zealand Portrait Gallery, Shed11, Queen’s Wharf, Wellington. Daily 10.30-4.30pm. Free admission.
