Saturday 08 November | On November 5, 1881 the village of Parihaka of Taranaki was invaded by 1600 colonial troops bent on ending a campaign of
passive resistance to land confiscation in Taranaki. Every year on the 7th of November the children of Parihaka and the
descendants of Tohu Kakahi and Te Whiti o Rongomai gather at the foot of the maunga to remember the event they call Te
Pāhua. In Korero Mai Ahau this week, Eru Morgan talks with Ruakere Hond about the commemoration and the legacy that Parihaka leaves for the tribes of Taranaki and the motu.
