Contemporary Maori fashion show opens at Te Papa this weekend
The Toi Maori Art Market fashion show will open to the public and run for 90 minutes from noon on Saturday and Sunday this weekend (November 8 and 9) at Te Papa.
It is an outstanding show that features a careful selection of over 50 garments from some of the greatest traditional and contemporary Maori weavers of the past 70 years as well as Canada’s internationally renowned Haida Indian contemporary fashion designer Dorothy Grant, who has fashion outlets right across Canada and America.
The fashion show is a prelude to the Toi Maori Art Market show being held at the TSB Bank Arena on Friday 14 to Sunday 16 November.
Toi Maori Art Market brings to Wellington an magnificent art experience with artists at work, seminars, presentations and performances from musicians, poets, painters, carvers, story tellers. With around 200 artists, it is New Zealand’s biggest gathering of established, leading and emerging contemporary Maori artists.
