SIX60 release single ‘Special’
After an elongated period of radio silence, SIX60 return rejuvenated and full of vigorous soul with their new single Special, set for release on October 31st.
The single arrives joyous and summery, infectious and hooky as anything the band has created on prior releases. Special lands gleefully in the sweet spot between Pop, RnB and Soul, whilst still boasting their rhythmical guitar sound the band have become renowned for.
Written and produced by Matiu Walters, Marlon Gerbes, and Printz Board, Special is the first taste of their second full-length, self-titled album due for release in February 2015 via Massive Entertainment/Universal Music NZ.
It has been six years since SIX60 formed, the five Otago University students who’s meteoric rise in popularity exploded from Dunedin outwards into the rest of the country and then beyond to international audiences in Australia, Europe and America. This is all thanks to an enigmatic live show; infectious radio singles like Forever, Rise Up 2.0 and Don’t Forget Your Roots; a progressive onslaught of guerrilla promotion via social media, and the love and belief in what they do.
Six New Zealand Music Awards, quadruple platinum album sales for their debut SIX60, sold out nationwide tours, summer festival headline performances, collaborations with the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra and feverish local and international popularity that few New Zealand bands could ever lay claim to.
Special was recorded between the band’s own M Studios and Roundhead Studios in September 2014. It was engineered by Neil Baldock (Crowded House, Common, Shihad), mixed by Grammy award winner Tony Maserati in LA (James Brown, Lady Gaga, Beyonce) then mastered by Dale Becker also in LA (Neil Diamond, Bush).
If the love that music fans around the planet have for SIX60 is anything to go by, the new sounds that they have been waiting for is truly going to be something pretty Special indeed.
Album pre-sales will be available on 21 November 2014.
