Unitec Continues Its China Strategy with Shanghai Theatre Academy
29 Oct 2014, AUCKLAND: Unitec has signed an agreement with Shanghai Theatre Academy to commence a one-year foundation course for selected Chinese students from 2015.
The course will prepare students for Unitec's undergraduate courses at its Department of Performing and Screen Arts.
This follows Unitec Chief Executive Rick Ede's recent signing of an agreement with the Beijing Dance Academy to develop a joint undergraduate creative dance programme to be delivered from 2015. Ede says Unitec is one of New Zealand's pioneers in developing academic partnerships with Chinese institutions.
"These partnerships further deepen our relationship with China."
Shanghai Theatre Academy is an internationally acclaimed leader in screen and performing arts education producing many of China's leading performers and teachers.
From 2015, Chinese students will be enrolled for a one-year foundation course at Shanghai Theatre Academy. Following successful completion of the course the students will enrol at Unitec to complete a three-year Bachelor in Performing and Screen Arts.
Unitec and Shanghai Theatre Academy share a long collaboration of successful student and staff exchanges.
"This is a further opportunity to consolidate our relationship with Shanghai Theatre Academy," Ede says.
"We are honoured that Shanghai Theatre Academy chose to include Unitec's Bachelor of Performing and Screen arts within its very limited selection of international foundation programs.
"Unitec's unique combination of
a highly supportive learning environment, a curriculum that
encourages the development of creativity, and staff who are
active members of NZ's performing arts industry are pivotal
factors behind this partnership."
