Matthew Bannister and The Nukes - Auckland
Matthew Bannister is making a rare Auckland appearance at the Great South Pacific Tuning Fork on Thursday November 6th, performing as a
special guest ahead ofThe Nukes.
Out of the beautiful west of Auckland come The Nukes, for a night of roots music with a twist. The Nukes discharge three part vocal harmonies, blistering riffs and riotous
rhythms to produce a fine blend of folk, bluegrass, reggae and post punk. They play The Great South Pacific Tuning Fork
this November as part of a tour to celebrate the arrival of their second album Lucky Ones. Very special guest for the show will be Matthew Bannister (ex Sneaky Feelings.)
In 2011 The Nukes featured as part of the TV Doco Bill Sevesi’s Dream and in 2012 they released their debut studio album ‘Each to their Own’ (which now has a companion songbook so players can follow along!). Album no 2, Lucky Ones, has burst out of the blocks fully formed, striding purposefully forth in a perfectly cut suit, waving with a
presidential smile. On their live performance:

Matthew Bannister, under the name One Man Bannister, last year released the ‘Evolver’ album – a tribute to the Beatles’ ‘Revolver’, which received rave reviews from every quarter. Recently he’s been performing his own material with his
band The Changing Same; the EP ‘Make Up My Mind’ was released recently.

Gold Medal Famous and The Doubtful Sounds - Wellington and Whanganui
Good news everyone! Wellington avant-garde electropop trio Gold Medal Famous joins forces with dual city Wellington/Auckland jangle-guitar pop group The Doubtful Sounds to play Wellington and Whanganui in the first week of November.
Fresh from an international live collaboration as Selective Yellow, Chris Wilson from Gold Medal Famous and James Noble from The Doubtful Sounds thought it was time to make the virtual a reality by bringing the bands together In Real Life. Selective Yellow recently performed a special cross-country show, Birmingham'sNetwork Festival, with James beaming in from the UK and Chris performing in New Zealand, resulting in a unique online instrumental duet.
Gold Medal Famous recently grazed the headlines again with the pre-election update of their infamous song ‘John Key is (Still) a Dick’ on
the Powertool Election EP; which followed on from the recent release of their metal album ‘Album of National Significance’.

The Doubtful Sounds have just released their second studio album ‘A Stone’s Throw From Happiness’. It’s a step up from their very well-received debut ‘The Pop Album’, in quality and sound – and a more challenging set of songs. It starts off recognising its pop roots (Fell in Love) before rebalancing that with a heavier side of life, especially with Mayday (to be released as a single in late November), before delving into alt country and acoustic darkness (Well of the Saints) as the album closes.
