First Time Opportunity in New Zealand to Hear Leading World Food Expert

A leading global expert specialising in disease prevention, Dr David Katz, will speak at a New Zealand Nutrition Foundation symposium in Auckland on October 30.

Dr Katz is being brought to New Zealand for the first time by the, to debunk the myths about nutrients and diets and bring us back to the fundamentals of healthful eating.

New Zealand Nutrition Foundation Chief Executive Officer Sue Pollard says the Foundation is very excited to be able to be have secured one of the world’s most influential authorities on food and nutrition communicators of this era.

“Dr Katz position is that we are NOT clueless about the basic care of our species,” she said. “He believes endless debate about the details of optimal diets, and an insatiable pop culture fascination with scapegoats and silver bullets- distract us from the well-known fundamentals of healthful eating.”

The one-day The Food Not Nutrients, getting back to talking about Food Symposium is for everyone with an interest in food and its impact on health.

Dr. Katz’ excellence in his field and contributions to public health and medical education has been extensively acknowledged. In 2009, he was a widely supported nominee for the position U.S. Surgeon General. He has been named one of America's Top Physicians in Preventive Medicine three times by the Consumer's Research Council of America and has been recognised as one of the 25 most influential people in the lives of children by Children's Health Magazine.

Dr. Katz is a frequent source of expert opinion to print media, radio and television. He is currently ABC News medical consultant; nutrition columnist to O, The Oprah Magazine; and a health columnist for the New York Times Syndicate. He has featured in three cover story articles in Time Magazine. He has appeared on Good Morning America, 20/20 and World News Tonight.

He has published 12 books to date. In his most recent, Disease Proof – The Remarkable Truth About What Makes Us Well, Dr Katz reveals that we can reduce our risk of any chronic disease by an astonishing 80 percent—more than any drug or intervention could ever hope to do.
