Wellington’s favourite faces cleaned up!

Wellington’s favourite faces cleaned up!

Some of the best known upper lips in Wellington have taken up the Movember challenge to boldly grow a Mo in the name of men’s health awareness for 30 days this November.

Restaurateur’s Steve Logan and Lorenzo Bresolin along with Wellington Firebird James Franklin have signed on and pledged their support as Mo Bro ambassadors.

With just one week standing between the guys and the growth of their moustaches, we’ll see Movember take over the appearance of Kiwi men for the 30 days, all in the name of men’s health.

In one weeks time Mo Bro’s Logan, Bresolin and Franklin will have prepared their upper lips for Movember with a close shave at the Wellington Movember Launch Thursday 30th of October at Goldings Free Dive each with their own unique reason for signing up.

Sportsman and local Wellingtonian James Franklin is looking forward to taking up the challenge. Franklin’s dedication to the game and attitude on and off the field have seen the allrounder become a finalist in this year’s 2014 Super Colour Sports Personality of the Year Award. And he wants more Wellington men to grow a moustache for men’s health with him.

“Kiwi guys aren’t usually open to talking about themselves or any problems they’ve got so they’re not proactive about their health which isn’t a good thing,” he says.

“We need to change that sort of thinking and Movember is the perfect opportunity to do just that.

“The reality is I’ve got to be in good health to be able to perform at my best. But I’m keen to inspire the Wellington blokes to do the same,” says Franklin.

However fellow Wellingtonian Mo Bro Steve Logan isn’t as confident about his efforts.

“In the past I’ve attempted to grow a mo and just got a shadow invisible from three metres,” he says.

“So maybe I can show its ok to grow a no-show-mo for a good cause!

“The feature of my involvement will be the modesty of my mo,” says Logan.

Kiwi men’s efforts during Movember have raised more than $10.5 million over the last eight years. The Movember Foundation remains determined to deliver programmes that will improve the health and wellbeing of men in this country.

Through encouraging the men of New Zealand to grow a moustache for 30 days, Movember sparks conversation around men’s health. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among Kiwi men, and testicular cancer is the most prolific among our younger men, aged 15 to 35 years. Alarmingly, 1 in 8 New Zealand men will suffer from depression over their lifetime.

“There’s one week left for Mo Bros and Mo Sistas, the fine Mo-supporting women behind the men, to get online, register and start collecting sponsorship to help change the face of men’s health,” says Robert Dunne, New Zealand Country Manager, The Movember Foundation.

“The contemporary Kiwi man has embraced the moustache and beard in it’s full glorious form - especially those in Wellington.

“We want to get on that buzz and ask the New Zealand men to register their efforts this year,” says Dunne.

Movember in Wellington kicks off Thursday 30th of November with Wellington Firebird and Wellington Mo Bro Ambassador James Franklin clean shaving at the official Launch Event at Goldings Free Dive.

He’ll be joined by New Zealand Country Manager for The Movember Foundation, Rob Dunne on the podium.

“All are welcome at these events and we encourage those to come along, sign up and register,” says Dunne.
