It’s that time of the year when communities around the country hold kura reo so people can advance their language skills. One such kura in Rotorua last week focused on reo papaho, the Maori used in broadcasting. In Korero Mai Ki Ahau on Saturday, Eruera Morgan talks to linguist and veteran te reo Maori broadcaster Te Waihoroi Shortland about the quality of language coming across on Maori television and radio.

On Sunday it’s Te Uroroa Flavell’s first time on Korero Mai Ki Ahau in his new role as Minister of Maori Development. The Waiariki MP and Maori Party co-leader is also responsible for Whanau Ora and is an Associate Minister for Economic Development. He talks with Eruera Morgan about his journey as educator, activist and politician, and what he wants to achieve over the next three years.
