Pink Star Walk this Saturday Oct 11

Auckland’s Pink Star Walk this Saturday Oct 11 – musician Jamie McDell will be the finale

The NZ Breast Cancer Foundation will hold its Pink Star Walk in the Auckland Domain this Saturday October 4, with a performance from singer-songwriter Jamie McDell rounding out the night.

The 10km route takes walkers on a loop from the Domain, through Parnell, the waterfront and Britomart. The event starts and finishes at the Domain Grandstand. There is a “family-friendly” 5km option, which stays within the Domain.

More than 900 Auckland women are likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Funds raised from entry fees and sponsorship of the Estee Lauder Companies Pink Star Walk will go to research, including the Auckland Breast Cancer Register which gathers treatment and outcome data on patients throughout the region, as well as to rehabilitation for women recovering from mastectomy, and awareness of mammograms for early detection.

Nearly two thousand walkers took part in the 2013 event, many of them breast cancer survivors and their families and supporters. The NZBCF is hoping for bigger numbers this year.

“It will be a night of celebration and support, and we’re hoping as many people as possible will join us,” said (Mrs) Van Henderson, chief executive at the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation. “It’s a magical evening, we’ll have Jamie McDell’s beautiful music as an inspiring finale, and there’s the bonus of doing some good at the same time.”

The NZBCF invites walkers to dress in pink, and expects to see a range of great costumes as well as more practical gear. Register for the Estee Lauder Companies Pink Star Walk atwww.pinkstarwalk.co.nz
