Playground
Wellington's High School Improvisers Take to the Stage.
PlayShop is proud to present the first ever Playground, an improvised show featuring young people from all over Wellington!
After participating in PlayShop’s Improvisation in High Schools program, these brave young improvisers are ready to hit the stage. Playground will bring students from all over Wellington together, playing improv games and vying to create the best scene of the night. Witness the challenge, the hilarity and the joy of live improvisation while supporting the next generation of performers.
Playground is about celebrating the work of the students involved with their teachers, friends and family, but it is also for the Wellington Improvisation community to celebrate the growing youth community.
PlayShop's youth improvisation community started in 2014 and offers training and mentorship to young performers and improvisers in Wellington. We are currently working in seven Wellington high schools, and have worked with over 100 secondary school students.
PlayShop constitutes a new generation of Wellington improvisers, all with a vested interest in theatre. We believe the skills and philosophies of improvisation can be used to create exciting, risky, accessible theatre of all types.
Playground is on the 19th October at Studio 77, 77 Fairlie Terrace, Victoria University of Wellington.
Start time: 5pm, 90 minute show.
Tickets: $5 entry per person, door sales only.
Playground and The Improv in High Schools program is completely free to participating schools and students thanks to support from Wellington City Council and Victoria University of Wellington. It is also supported by the Wellington City Council Creative Communities Scheme.
