Create style of your own
This Sunday (5 October) MTG Hawke’s Bay hosts two special events associated with the Travel in Style exhibition.
The exhibition is drawn from a collection of garments belonging to Whetu Tirikatene-Sullivan (1932-2011), New Zealand’s longest serving female MP. The garments, many of which incorporate striking Maori motifs, were gifted to the Hawke’s Bay Museums Trust by her family. It is the first time the garments have been on public display.
Style Your Own is a free all ages activity which runs all day on Sunday and that children will find most appealing - styling an outfit for MTG’s custom-made Travel in Style dress-up dolls.
Also on Sunday, at 2pm, MTG Director Douglas Lloyd Jenkins and Curator of Art and Design Lucy Hammonds will hold a floor talk to discuss Whetu’s fashion.
Entry to the floor talk is included with the MTG’s entry charge, or free for holders of Travel in Style programme tickets which are given to customers at entry. Entry to MTG Hawke’s Bay costs $10 for adults, and is free for children aged under 15.
The exhibition runs until 15 March 2015.
