The Vodafone Season of A Christmas Carol is a Christmas cracker!
The Royal New Zealand Ballet does Dickens
The heart-warming magic of Charles Dickens will leave audiences spellbound as the Royal New Zealand Ballet brings The Vodafone Season of A Christmas Carol to New Zealand in its final season for 2014.
“It’s a very festive show and we invite all of New Zealand to come and enjoy this terrific ballet with us,” says Amanda Skoog, RNZB Managing Director. “It’s a special thrill for us all to be bringing this classic tale of goodwill, joy and happiness to our Christchurch audiences when we will be the first NZ company to perform on the newly restored Isaac Theatre Royal. We simply cannot wait to be there.”
The acclaimed blockbuster ballet production, created originally for Northern Ballet (the same company that brought us Dracula and Carmen) will be seen for the first time outside of the UK.
Northern Ballet’s Ballet Master, Daniel de Andrade, is in New Zealand to stage the ballet for the RNZB.
“This evocative production has been a hit in the UK for over 20 years and such was its success that the BBC televised the production. The stunning sets and costumes transport audiences to Victorian England where Dickens’ classic characters are beautifully brought to life by talented dancers who not only dance but sing and act. It’s a narrative masterpiece and you couldn’t find a truer Christmas ballet,” says Daniel de Andrade.
With over 650 costume elements adorning 75 characters, huge sets, and music for the production specially created by celebrated film and television composer Carl Davis including many favourite Christmas carols, the show is a grand festive event.
Vodafone Consumer Director, Matt Williams, says Vodafone is proud to be National Sponsor of the Royal New Zealand Ballet.
“As well as being a leading full service telecommunications company, we’re passionate about New Zealand sport, music and the arts – and we’re strongly committed to strengthening local communities too. So it’s great to get our name behind this national tour of the Vodafone Season of A Christmas Carol and we continue to make the RNZB available to all Vodafone customers as part of our Fantastic Fridays offer."
Opening in Wellington at the St James Theatre on 30 Oct, the production tours during November and December to Dunedin, Christchurch, Palmerston North, Napier, Auckland and Takapuna.
