6 week countdown to International Volunteer Managers Day
Volunteering New Zealand (VNZ) encourages
organisations to celebrate International Volunteer Managers
Day (IVM Day) to be held on November 5.
This year, the day is inspired by a whakataukī, Maori proverb:
Ki te kahore he whakakitenga ka ngaro te iwi
Without foresight or vision, the people will be lost.
VNZ is proud to have inspired the 2014 global theme, ‘Volunteering Managers – Visionaries for Volunteering’, where the continuous efforts of leaders and managers of volunteers will be recognised worldwide.
Vanisa Dhiru, Chief Executive of VNZ says, “Our theme recognises the need for and value of the strong leadership and vision of the co-ordinators and volunteer managers. IVM Day is an opportunity for everyone worldwide to give thanks to those who organise and assist volunteers within our communities.”
“Volunteer managers are responsible for significant contributions to our global community – their ability to empower and encourage one another will be recognised through the IVM Day celebrations.” says Vanisa.
VNZ is celebrating by creating profiles of managers of volunteers and getting them to share with us why they like working with volunteers in a fun collaborative way – stay tuned!
Briefing and design material for IVM Day can be found on the VNZ website and includes posters for free download, a Facebook banner and logo designs and key messages.
