The Block NZ Heats up with Dinner Wars
Dinner Wars, one of the most controversial and creative challenges of The Block NZ is back - this week things are heating up in more than just the kitchen for Maree & James, Jo & Damo, Alex & Corban, and Quinn & Ben.
As well as completing the main bathroom and laundry, each team must sharpen their knives, pull on their aprons and pull out all the stops to impress the other contestants at their winning dinner party. Contestants must score each other’s performance – but will they play fair or let their true colours show?
“Dinner Wars always marks a critical turning point in the series,” says MediaWorks TV Head of Commissioning, Sue Woodfield.
“It’s the catalyst that sees good neighbours go bad. With so much at stake teams often choose to play strategically and relationships are never quite the same. Dinner Wars has provided some of the biggest storylines of The Block NZ, and this year is no exception.”
This year, the contestants have had the advantage of a helping hand from New World’s Fresh Experts, who have provided the best produce and advice to help the teams take their dinner parties to a new level.
Steve Bayliss, Group General Manager Marketing, New World says, “We love that The Block NZ captures our Fresh Experts’ passion for their category, and shows off their expertise as well as their desire to deliver the best for our customers. This really is our key point of difference to other supermarkets.”
Ralph Shirley, New World Papatoetoe, Butchery Manager was one of those involved. He says, “It was great fun being involved in the filming of The Block NZ. We enjoyed sourcing the freshest and most interesting cuts of meat and I truly hope that my tips have helped my team win the Dinner Wars challenge.”
Viewers are continuing to vote with their remotes and choose The Block NZ over My Kitchen Rules with increasing numbers. The first Dinner Wars episode last night (Tuesday 23 September) convincingly won the timeslot in the key 25-54 and Main Household Shopper with children (MHSwch) demographics.
The Block NZ had an average 25-54 audience of 188,700 (compared with 116,200 for My Kitchen Rules NZ) and an average MHSwch audience of 83,900 (compared with the 34,300 who watched My Kitchen Rules NZ).
The Block NZ is produced by Eyeworks Television for TV3. The broadcast sponsor is Bunnings Warehouse, joined by programme partners Kiwibank, Honda and Wild Bean Cafe.
